The Somali School of Law was founded in 2024 by the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs as a statutory institution under Policy No. 171 of 2025, approved on January 9, 2025, for the public benefit. Recognized as Somalia’s premier center for practical legal training, research, and consultancy, we are committed to shaping a new generation of legal professionals who uphold justice, the rule of law, and ethical practice. Since our establishment, we have offered access to a wide range of academic and professional opportunities, driving transformative change in Somalia’s legal sector. As a leader in legal education, the Somali School of Law is modernizing legal training, aligning it with regional and international standards, and addressing historical challenges to build a robust and just legal system.

I am delighted to announce that the Federal Republic of Somalia has initiated a transformative journey through the formulation of the National Policy on Legal Education and the establishment of the Higher Institute for Legal Training and Development. This policy, driven by the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs (MOJCA), represents a groundbreaking effort to regulate and enhance legal education and the legal profession in Somalia. It provides a structured framework to address historical challenges, foster harmonization, and align Somalia’s legal education with regional and international standards.
The Institute’s vision is to become a leading center of excellence in practical legal training, research, and consultancy within the Horn of Africa and beyond. We are committed to equipping future legal professionals with the skills, knowledge, and ethical foundation needed to meet national and international legal standards.
In addition to a robust advocate training curriculum, we have developed continuous professional development and specialized programs tailored for judicial officers, prosecutors, public sector lawyers, clerks, and paralegal officers currently serving in government roles.
These programs emphasize constitutional principles, legal reforms, and emerging government policies.
The Institute’s primary audience includes graduate students aspiring to join the Bar, the judiciary, prosecution, Attorney General’s Office, and various ministries as legal counsel. Our vision also extends to elevating Somali legal professionals to regional and international standards, enabling them to become members of global judicial training organizations.
Finally, as an institution dedicated to legal training, the Institute upholds professionalism as a cornerstone of its operations.
